State Sponsored ExtremismPosted on 2008-11-05

My
daughter attends a local primary school, which happens to be designated as
Methodist. It is exactly the kind of school that the Daily Mail would like us all to send our children to and totally unlike those militant/fundamentalist schools staffed by illegal immigrants and deviants that we're all so worried about.
She has spent most of this week learning about the Bad Man called Guy who tried to kill the King but was discovered just in time. Today they had a firework display (during school time) and learnt about the importance of burning an effigy of the Popish Plotter himself.. lest we ever forget his satanic ways.
So I've hard to re-educate her and explain that in our house we prefer to burn more contemporary figures of hate. I'm all for extremism, but why waste it on religion and history?
Recently we've had
Martin Keown, Malcolm Glazer, a abstract figure with a TV for a head (representing the media), Frank Lampard and even Gordon Brown. Normally these "guys" are stuffed with newspapers. But maybe we can spin it a little differently this year... and we dress ourselves as figures of hate (
Brand, Ross,
Boyle and
Clarkson perhaps) and simply burn a stack of extremist newspapers. Like the daily mail.
