On-going polygonsPosted on 2008-12-22

I've just finished a cunning little script to make nice movies out of my "evolving"
polygon creations. There was a staggeringly stupid bug in this first movie which I didn't notice (and correct) until about 12,000 generations into this 34,000 generation run. The bug caused the mutations to only happen in one direction; colours could only get lighter and points could only move rightward and downward. Opps, but it gives the final sequence a strange new twist.
- Image 1 is the target photo.
- Image 2 is the current best attempt.
- Image 3 is a composite of the previous 2.
- Image 4 a graph of "fitness" (lower is better) against generation number.
I'm going to add support for polygon scaling, rotating and splitting next, but probably not until after Christmas now. Click on the image to download the small (7.5MB) movie, you'll need a fairly current set of video player to be able to view it.
VLC is your friend.
